Blue Lagoon Subdivision
The project involved the construction of a new subdivision around a manmade lagoon. The works consisted of clearing the site and mulching the vegetation for future use, over 90,000m3 of excavation and filling on the site and an adjacent site, over 26,000m2 of HDPE liner to the base of the lagoon, sand bedding over the liner, construction of the rock wall around the edge of the lagoon, construction of the overflow spillway to the lagoon, installation of RCP/culverts, kerb and channel, subsoils, construction of sewerage pump station, unbound pavement and asphalt.
Job Specific Challenges
- A haulage route had to be constructed though the adjacent mangroves to cart excavated material for placement and compaction on a nearby subdivision. The haulage route had to limit the damage to the mangroves and be able to be removed on completion.
- The site was surrounded by existing residential properties. Noise, vibration and dust had to be controlled and monitored.
